I am going to convert my 223 10FP to 260 Rem that will be a prone gun that I will shoot paper to 1k (140 ish grain bullets) with optics. What would you guys suggest on barrel length? I have no experience with this round unlike the 308/223. I shoot Palma and we like barrels at least 30 inches. But, with this I have no idea...26 or 28? Mike

I am sure that someone will come-up with a formula...
Personally, I would think that you are still "pushing" the bullet with a 30" pipe.

My .260AI has a 30" Brux barrel.

As you already know, the 260 is a 308 case with a 6.5mm bullet on it. What that means to me is (although extremely over simplified) is a .308 with better BC bullets and less recoil. If you like a 30" barrel on a 308 I'll be willing to bet you will like one on a 260.

It's a little long for what I would want to do with it, but I am not shooting Palma at 1K either. But with my 260 and a cheap 24" barrel I can consistently put it on an 18" target at 1125 yrds. But I'll bet it wouldn't be a world record setting group.

I use an 18" barrel in my Savage .260 to shoot 1k ;D
