Stevens ejection problem

I have a .223 that wont fully eject a round about 75% of the time. It will come out about half way and drop it in the front part of the magazine. I thought it was hitting the front of the magazine lip but it still does it with no magazine in at all. Is this a common problem?

A couple of thoughts:

A. Have you tried the replacing the extractor detent ball with a 9/64th (~.140") ball?
Sometimes the problem is the extractor.

B. Also, have you really cleaned out your ejector? There could be gunk that is making it stick and not extend its full length.
