New to Axis

I looked in the posting on the similarity of the Axis and 10 series Savage and found the only thing in common was the barrel and bolt face. It has been a while since I have been on this site and the Axis has stirred my interest again. I am looking at a 25-06 again. Why did Savage make something different from the Stevens line?

From the reviews I have read, they had actualy thought about making it a stevens, but decided to make it a savage as the new "base" model....
