Ok, after about 4 months of wait time, between getting it spiral fluted, the leade lengthened, a muzzle brake installed, and having it nitrided, i finally have my CBI (from Northland, of course) back and screwed on....The finish is AWESOME!!!!!!! The color and finish reminds me of the old Weatherbys ! Has anybody cleaned theirs after getting it back? I got alot of black out, used bronze brush with Kroil, and patches....finally came clean, but seemed like alot???? the outside left no color on a white paper towel, even rubbed hard!! Anyway, it is awesome looking, will post some pics tonight or tomorrow..rsbhunter

Very Nice sir!!

Your barrel was polished i assume. I can see a reflection off the barrel and i have read on here that if polished its similar to bluing but 100 times more corrosion resistant. but if its matte finish its like a smooth park but with a bluish look to it.

Did they charge extra to do the brake or was it included but just kept off the barrel to prevent any problems while nitriding? How did you prep the barrel before sending it in, as in shoot rounds just to burnish the throat and bore?

i was gonna nitride a cheap stevens barrel project im having re-chambered to 22-250AI but since i jumped on the group buy of Er Shaw barrels, i may save the cash for the better barrel. knowing me ill prob end up nitriding both!! one for hunting weight and one for competition wieght.

Turn around was approx 2 weeks, i had SSS install the muzzle brake, and then send it to Freedom Gunworks, maybe a month total....the barrel was a CBI as it came from Northland, i really like it...and i'm not into gloss, but it does look good.....
