a few weeks ago i stumbled on a heavy .270 savage barrel at numrich's website. It is stainless and was described as a "heavy" factory original savage barrel.
It arrived today in what I would call less than perfect condition, but I got it for $80 so i'm not to upset. There is some cosmetic blemishes and some rust, etc that all can be cleaned up pretty good with some fine steel wool and oil.

Anyway, there are no manufacturer or caliber markings anywhere on the barrel. The only marking at all is a single W or M (depending on which way you look at it) that is near the threads. Just wondering why no markings, and has anyone else had any experience with one of these savage heavy barrels from numrich. I have a barrel wrench and nut wrench on the way, and hope to change it out in a week or so and see how it shoots.

Same barrel what you got and this is what it shoots. Broke barrel in by shoot one, clean, shoot one, clean for 15 rounds. easy cleanup with no copper fouling. barrel cleans fast.

Barrels are not marked until they are installed. If they were stamped before installing there would be no way to tell which way it would be oriented once it was headspaced.

How can it have rust if it is "stainless"?

Check the chamber. Many of the Savage barrels sold by Nurich are not fully chambered and polished yet.

Savage's stainless is 416 and known to rust if not kept oiled. It is stainless not stainproof.

kind of what i was thinking, but anyway. i guess if it sits around in a damp warehouse for a while it can develop some rust.
