View Full Version : How is an aftermarket stock better than an Accustock?

I am considering an H-S Precision Sporter stock to go on a non-Savage rifle that came with a cheapie plastic stock. I am very happy with my Savage Predator and the Accustock seems to hold it very securely. Can you help this newbie understand the additional benefits of something like the HS Sporter stock provides over the Accustock?

In my opinion, the only reason to swap out the Accu-stock is ergonomics.

Does anyone know who makes the accustocks for Savage? The internal design seems very similar to HS Precision.

Savage did something right with the accustock, you're not going to fine an after market stock that does much better than the accustock, its the older plastic stocks that were a disaster.

I'll agree that the accustock is a giant improvement over the older stocks, but it is still just an injected molded plastic stock that now has an aluminum spine.

The HS, B&C-Medalist, and Stockade stocks are a molded composite over an aluminum spine. The composite material is a much stiffer material than the IM-plastic.

but its still not much better, the plastic stock is still plenty stiff with that aluminum spine, as stated earlier, the only reason to change it out is for ergonomics.

Not sure who makes the stocks for them but a local guy here did all the prototyping for them. He had a very good bussiness making nice wood stocks with aluminum beds and rails. Sadly he was in a bad accident and the business was sold off. I believe it is in NC now.
