I have a few questions on a 30 BR. The one I have coming is a 1-10" twist, and I was thinking of running 155 A-Maxs just because I always keep them around for my 308. My question is where can I get some load data for that weight of bullet?

I have done some looking on line and the only place that is showing anything is loaddata.com and I am not a member.

Also where can I find some good inexpensive dies. I glanced through Midway and saw what they offer, any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I make up 30 BR brass but don't shoot one or load for it.(Yet ;D) But I do load for a 6.8 BR Wildcat that I had a reamer cut for.
I use Forster Bushing Bump dies and by changing the bushings to the size I need, I can load for my 22BR, 6mm BR, and the 6.8 BR, all out of the same die.
That same die will go down to 17,20 or just about anything based on the BR case just by changing bushings. ;)

Boots I did the same as you but used 12twist and to be honest I am thinking about having it re chambered to 308.
I got my dies from ch custom dies, you will need the extended shell holder to trim your cases if using a file trim die and be sure to tell them what bullets you are using so you get the right seating plug.
As for load data try Steve's pages or maybe IMR.

From Loaddata - no 155

I would also try some RL7 if you have any laying around.
Maybe 10X too but it might be too slow.

thanks for the replies guys, keep em coming.

tammons thanks for posting up the data there. If I keep buying new calibers I may have to look into getting on that site. You suggested RL7, and out of all of that data, that is one of the powders I started keeping around (wanted to try it in my 458WM). You wouldn't by chance have any idea of charges on the RL7?

Anybody else got any suggestions, keep 'em coming. :)

As far as dies go, I am thinking about just sending a couple cases and bullets up to Lee and having a Collet Die set made just to get started. But then I'll have to wait, and I hate to wait, arrrgghhhh. :D

I use Wilson hand dies and a Redding body die for mine. Harrell's makes a full length die for $70. If you do have the collet dies made let us know how they work out. What size neck do you have? I have a 1-17" barrel on mine so I can't help you with the load data.

I dont know with RL7 and the 30BR. Thats tricky in that most people load the 30Br with lighter bullets, but running it through quickload I would say 27-28 gr to start looking for a max at maybe 30-31, but I would definately be cautious since there is no data.

I did see RL7 mentioned on the 6mmBR site in an article on the 30BR but no data.

You might want to ask on the forum over there.

Stay Safe.

Honestly I can't remember what the seller said it had. I wasn't really planning on getting a 30BR, but I had a barrel that I didn't need and he did so we ended up with a trade. I know he told me but I can't remember off the top of my head, I'll look back through the PMs and check.

Tammons, once again, thanks.

Stay Safe.

Always. Got 2 eyes and 8 fingers and 2 thumbs, definitely want to keep it that way. ;)

Neck of chamber is .334"

Found it.

That should be a no turn neck with Lapua brass, but measure your loaded rounds to be sure. I thought maybe turned necks might give a problem with the Lee collet die. I'm thinking about doing a 1-10" A&B barrel for walking varminter to shoot rockchucks with. My 1-17" barrel shoots 110 grain Vmax's almost as well as match bullets and I want to try them out on varmints.

I thought about ordering a Lee .308 die and shortening it to size 30BR just to see if I could get it to work, but ended up going with Wilson dies. All the ammo I've ever loaded with the Lee collet die has been outstanding, however I still needed to FL or body size after a few firings to set the shoulder back.

Skunce, I did the die shortening method for my 6BR for the seating die. I used a Lee 243 Dead Length seating die (that the one without the crimping built in) and just shortened it in a Precision Grinder and works great. With a Sizer, It could work on a FL but the Collet would be a bit more work. You'd have less room for error with the FL vs. the Seater.

How do you like those Wilson Dies? Saw they were available from Midway but I have never tried Wilson. May get some just to get started so I don't have to wait until the Collet Dies arrive.

I used Wilson dies and they are different.

I prefer traditional dies, but they worked.

I necked up with an expandiron in 2 steps and turned the donut off the outside.
About 50% were ready to fire or fire form at that stage with no resizing.

If you want the best seater die money can buy get a Harrell's. $70 bucks and you can't go wrong.

I saw that the Wilson Dies required an arbor press, etc. so I am going to stick to a traditional style die.

82Boy, I will check out the Harrells. Thanks.

Was looking over the data posted above by Tammons (thanks again) and was seeing H4198 and H4895, Varget falls right in-between those two powders as far as burn rate, and it is a go-to powder for the 6BR so I was just looking to see if anyone had any thoughts on using it, maybe a ball park place to start as far as a conservative start charge. Was kind of thinking like 25-26.0 grains to start?

Still just planning, haven't gotten dies yet so.......
