Hi,

I have just purchased this model after web research. I'll be hunting Coues deer this year instead of mule deer. So, the range will be longer. I've never owned a rifle with a scope before. So, my questions are:

I've been looking at Weaver 3x15x50 scopes and Nikon 6x24x50 scopes for hunting. I generally target shoot out to 500 meters with my milsurps so I'd want to target shoot this far at least and maybe use the 1000 yard range too. Are these scopes ok for both applications? What scope would you recommend?

Also, I know nothing about mounting a scope. What mounts/rings would you recommend? I plan on having a shop mount the scope for me.

Thanks,

Mike

I would go with the Nikon, in my opinion. Got several, never had a problem with them. Weaver is having several issues with QC,and customer service sucks right now. I would put on a picantinny base, steel preferably, and Steel Weaver type rings to go with it. I have several savages with Picatinny bases, and Millet steel rings with great results, year in and year out. The millets are adjustable for windage, in case you run out when zeroing your scope. Nothing to putting on mounts, degrease screw holes with acetone, put blue loctite on screw threads and you are good to go.
