I was gifted a Stevens Model 200 in .223 cal S/A and would like to swap the barrel for a mid-bore. My criteria are listed below.

1) .338 caliber or larger
2) I'd like something that I can feed off the self ammo wise
3) I'd like of course to do this on the cheap so something like a Numrich barrel or Adams& Bennett

Thank you in advance-Bill[

"mid-bore"?

What do you consider large bore?

You are not going to be able to feed anything of large caliber from the mag/magwell. Believe a 338 equivalent of the 300 Whisper will, but not by much.

Sounds like a case for 338 Federal and a bolt change. Barrel anywhere, most notably McGowan. Bolt from Midway. Ammo off the shelf, maybe not anywhere, but most larger distributors. For true anywhere, may I recommend 308. Just an idea.

338 Federal, or trade that short action for a long action and build whatever boomer you want.

35 Rem or 358 Win - for either you will need a new mag box and bolt head.

Sorry I've take so long to respond back (computer woes). Is the .350 Rem .Mag out of the question? Is the .350 RM a dinosaur?
I do plan on changing out the plastic stock to wood laminate.

Check how much you gain with the 350 Mag vs. the 358 win - not really worth it at all to me.

If you want factory ammo, the 350 RM is a poor choice. It gets harder to find every year. The 358 is a little better, but not by much. I think the 338 Federal would be a good choice for a short action medium bore.
