Can a 243 be re-chambered to 6mm Remington?

??? Well, the bore is the same so yes... The problem is that the actual chamber dimentions are enough different, that part of the barrel will need to be cut, rechambered, and re threaded. Depending upon the contour that may be difficult, and you will lose barrel length. With a Savage, the question becomes why not just buy a new barrel?? Unless you have a friend in the biz, it would be essentially the same price, and you get to keep the 243.

Darkker is absolutely right. A 6mm Remington reamer will not clean up a 243 chamber.

A 6mm Remington Ackley Improved however WILL clean up a 243 chamber.

The next question is, will a SA Savage magazine accommodate the longer 6mm Rem AI cartridge without the bullet being seated very deeply?

guess 243AI or 6BR are the next options

I guess I could've just looked at a print but didn't know if someone on here had done one before. I wouldn't think there would be much setback to the barrel. Any body know?

The 243 Win has very little body taper and the 6mm Rem has a lot of body taper.

The barrel would have to be set back about a full 1 inch to accommodate the 6mm Rem.

The AI though is a very simple operation and you can still fire factory 6mm Rem ammo in the AI chamber.
