HI you can use 270 wsm data and go from there, Hogdon has 90gr sierra's with 60.5 varget and is good for 3700+fps with 62,800 psi, wsm chamber's are good for 65,000 psi so if you start with the 85gr bullet with that data you will be good to go, I would not be surprised that if you CREPT up to 62gr of varget you would be knocking on 4000fps door.

Thanks Dean

Thanks Dean
I may come up a little short of them speeds because I have only got a 22"
barrel. It is a rechambered 260 caliber from a remington.
I will see what I get and post it.

I started with the lighter loads of the 270WSM data as well.

Hundreds of rounds without issue.

What the Deuce?!?
Was just talking about this case in another forum...

As the good folks at Sierra told me, use the STARTING loads for the 264 Win Mag, as the case cap is very close; work up from there.
Most of my brass came from the 300WSM, and the average case capacity is 81 gr.

I also started with the 270 wsm loads and just dropped a couple of grains. Those are really light bullets for the caliber so the 270 won't have any info on them, I would stick with 100 grain or higher anyway. But if you can make it work out for you have fun.

im using 270 wsm brass which is the same as the 300 wsm brass except neck.
its very easy to go down to 6.5 just using the standard 6.5 die.
im not really interested in using the light bullets. 123 sierras were the lightest ive tried.
everything shoots very well with that cartridge. at this point im using 140 smks with reloader 22.
i intend trying 130 bergers as i have only tested their 140s.
i have a 26" 8.5 twist brux barrel. 3300 fps with 140s isnt difficult.

Any use of 6.5 WSM on game by any of you? Would like to hear about results if anyone has done any hunting with one.

Ammoguide.com has load data for two flavors of 6.5 WSM. One is a 270 WSM necked to 6.5 and the other is based on the 300 WSM. Case volumes are the same so both might be useful for defining starting loads to work up from:

WOW!

What perfect tming for a post. Yesterday the little lady and I had to drive 55 miles to find a beach in which the wind and snow allowed us access and we did not freeze our southern parts. 16 degress blowing 35 and gusting to better than fifty. Learned years ago the weather is what is happening and weathermen here are seldom listened too. Never seen a winter like this in 35 years here.

I ran across some 100gr Partitions and some 100 grain Sierra 6.5 bullets last week. I haven't had the barrel on a action since before the holidays so thought I would see what I could come up with so loaded up some to see what I could get. Wife sat in the 4X4 Van and I shot between gusts. Eyes watered badly. The one stray bullet was the first when putting on paper. All groups were shot at 80 yards and are just 3 shot test groups. I was pretty excited with the results. No group went over 1/2" and if my eyes weren't watering the groups would have been better.

I can say started with 62 grains of H 4350 and work your way up. Top right diamond was 64 grains of Rel 17 and that load was smoking (Well past 3400fps!)

While posting this I got a couple e-mails wanting to know what my round count was now with this 19" stainless Nitrided Benchmark barrel. I am pushing 1000 rounds very hard!

JUST RUN IT IN YOUR 6.5 DIE THAT'S IT.

whats a set of dies go for? i looked a little and didnt see anything. i figured i would look harder tomorrow, but just curious to see what they run.

i have seen some people shooting the 270wsm with good results i think the thing is you have to find a good bullet to shoot.

Matrix Bullets is currently working on hunting 6.5 bullets that are high BC.

They have some super high BC bullets in 270. If I had a 270 I would be shooting them.

I bought the 6.5WSM die from a smith that closed the doors. He had a bunch made by C&H and I heard they are on the die list. I really don't know as I haven't checked.

I am going to anneal the 270 WSM brass the next time I get a batch of new. I have lost a number of necks in the beginning. Now a year later I have split about half of the necks and the case necks are pretty sooty indicating the cases aren't expanding to seal the gas in the chamber. Very simple process to run 270 WSM brass in. Necking 300WSM to 7WSM to 270 WSM then to 6.5 I would think quiet tedious. One can not neck 300WSM to 6.5WSM straight away. At least I crushed the shoulders on several. Later today I am going to anneal cases and see if it is possible to drop 30 caliber to ???
