maybe i need to stay with the 270wsm then. i was looking at matrix bullets last night and looks like they have some good bullets for this caliber

I spent yesterday morning with different loads figuring I would test for more velocity.

As previously stated- and Yesterday affirmed what I have experienced several times before.
65grs H4350 100 grain Nosler Partition 3350fps with bughole 3 shot groups.

Night before last I had a hair stuck crossways and did what I have been doing with almost everything. I loaded up some Rel 17 Actually 65 grains which isn't even close to filling the case. This time I put the 100gr Barnes tipped TSX on top of the powder. I only loaded 4 rounds.
1. 3586 2. 3575 3. 3587 4. 3600 My other Chrony reads 100fps faster than these speeds. I also shot three more of the Nosler loads after the Barnes test loads and the Chrony worked perfect and those three shots shot into a bughole.

I for one can not believe that with all the space left available in this case I was able to shoot four bullets so close together in speed. Accuracy was awesome for this kind of speed. .250 for 4 shots with one (4th) shot going exactly into one of the previous holes. Though I experienced no pressure signs like always work up> BEWARE I started at this charge because I was at least 8 grains under case capacity!

I just can not say enough good about the three groove benchmark barrels. This barrel is a braked 19" super ultra-light for hunting purposes. Yes the barrel is Nitrided and even at this velocity there wasn't one smear of copper in the bore!

I have been finding in every use Rel 17 is giving me more velocity by a lot than either imr or H 4350. With the 130 grain Accubond my sweet load is still H4831SC at 3100fps. Think about this for a second; instead of a 19" Nitrided barrel lets put this same cartridge load into a 26" 3 groove (faster) Nitrided barrel. Experience with these three groove Nitrided barrels makes me feel confident that 3900fps is quite acheiveable! 3900fps with the same bullet weight I shoot at 3100fps in my 6 Remington rifle!!!

Just follow up data to mull over. With the new high BC hunting bulets out there I would have to say the 270 WSM would be pretty much identical in preformance. I am however having a riot with this little guy and will order some 85gr Sierra varminters just to see how fast I can get this bullet moving.

I have also came to that conclusion, RL17 loads are at least 100 fps faster and often more, and with less signs of pressure..

I love those 85 grain Sierra's in my 264 Win Mag, with 70gr of RL17 in my 26in 10 twist Mcgowen I hit 4000 fps all day long, I have even loaded up to 73gr with new brass have not chronoed them with the latter loads, It makes for an excellent varmint rig ;D
