This TRR-SR will be my first Savage, so yes, I'm cherry. Waiting for a quote from Savage Gunsmithing to procure and "tweek" the weapon under their "special offer." Weapon will sport a Silencerco 22Sparrow, ammo probably Wolf Match Target. I'm the type that will spend three hours shooting the same rifle and only fire 50 rounds. The only thing I am undecided is the scope. Caliber: 22LR, shooting style: small game/varmint, range practice - no competition; zero at 50yds, shooting up 125-150yds (max. eff. range for 22LR std vel.), price range: $350-450 (with some slop). The only parameter I insist on is MILDOT, hopefully looks good on TRR-SR; desire variable power, illuminated reticle - but not deal brealer. Not climbing mountains but don't want it to fall apart while adjusting paralex. I've looked at NIKON, Leupold, Burris, Falcon Menace, Mueller, etc.; - getting overwhelmed. Maybe that's the problem, too many options.

Try a Mueller 8-32x44 side focus target scope............

Thanks, but target reticle, not MILDOT; not great for quick ranging and varmints in dark background.

what magnification range are you looking for?
1/4", 1/8", or mil/mil clicks?
Most typical use of your rifle/scope combo?

Here's some options:
Bushnell elite tactical 5-15x40
Vortex viper 6.5-20x44 or 50mm
Nikon buckmasters 6-18x40

Looking for rapid aquisition, go with a lower mag scope. I have a 1.5-6x42 on a 17hmr that is great for squirrels. You dont need huge magnification for shooting up to 125-150. Consider a fixed power also, bushnell 10x40 (moa and mil) is a great scope for the money. Guys have used 10x scope to shoot out to 1000 for years. And stretch the 22lr out a little farther, guys are shooting them 200 and beyond regularly now (check out snipershide.com rimfire section), but make sure to get a 20moa or greater base and a scope with a lot of internal adjustement. If you dont have a spotting scope, or have poor eyes, go with a higher magnification (or pick up a spotter). Unless youre shooting low light, don't look for an illuminated reticle, it will just cost more and that money could go toward better glass.

Some lower mag options:
Mueller apt 4-14x40 (had one and was not a big fan, but a lot of people love them)
SWFA Super Sniper 3-9x42 HD (MIGHT find a used one in the upper end of your price range)
Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 (Awesome glass, great buy for the quality, reticle choices limited)
Swift premier scopes (good Schott glass)

that said, I just bought a Wonder Optics, WOTAC, 4-14x50 for my next 22lr project. I like the mag range and the EPB reticle and the customer service is great (same with vortex). I shoot from 50-200, back and forth, so exposed target turrets knobs were mandatory for me. Ther reticle is accurate around 10x, which is usually what I shoot at. If you can look through the glass when you narrow your options down, do it before purchasing a scope. Some glass looks different to different eyes.

I have a Bushnell 3200 tactical elite 5x15x40 on my TR. It has a mil-dot and I shoot the Wolf MT ammo. I zero at 50yd and on second dot down I am shooting 1/2 and .4's groups at 100 yds if I do my part. The most fun I have had is shooting small pcs of clay pigeons that are just a little bigger than the dot in scope @ 100 yds.

To both of you, thanks for the input. Chiefkerdog - the mildot ranging sounds about right. I have an Accushot SWAT 30mm 4-16x56 Mil-Dot, zero at 50yds, 1.9 mil at 100yds, 2.0 mil at 115.
