I was just wondering why you couldn't skim bed the action instead of the stock. You know prepping the action for the bedding compound, and putting the release agent on the stock. Any thoughts. :)

If I understand your question, it would work either way but if you wanted to change stocks for some reason in the future, the action might not fit into the new stock.

The idea of bedding is to make the stock match the action and take care of any fit problems between action and stock. I cant figure out how skim bedding the action would make that work. All it does is add a layer of bedding to the action which may or may not fit the stock. Or any other stock you may want to use.

I have thoughts that it is not a smart thing to do.

The bedding is reinforcing the stock for proper and consistent contact with the action. Not the other way around.
