I'm reloading for my .222 using 50 grn v-max and am wondering about using magnum primers as opposed to regular primers. I'm using ramshot xterminator powder. Anyone have any suggestions.

Try each, see which works better. Highly unlikely that mag primers will be needed. I wouldn't go out and buy some just for this load.

Appreciate the reply,

I had accidently picked up some magnums and decided to keep them as far as my charge weight how much should i reduce to be safe should i decide to reload some.

No need to reduce at all, simply start load development from scratch.

I used CCI sm mags when doing some load development for my 222 rem (using sierra blitz's) .

As stated, I started from the bottom and worked up.

I found a load that shot both mag primers and regular primers equally accurate, they just had different points of impact. It was nowhere close to a max load, but it was hard to argue with the results, so I stopped testing and started reloading.

Wolf SRM primers added 200 fps compared to CCI 400's. They also cut my SD to single digits. Not sure about any other brands of magnum primers.

50 grn v-max boat tail
23.5 grns ramshot x-terminator powder
cci small rifle primer (magnum) no.450

at 100 yds i grouped .637"
i'm personally impressed considering the best i could do before with factory ammo was 1.5" on a good day.
