When going from a 30-06 to a 6.5x55 should I have to change the bolt face? The 6.5 will fit but seems a little tight, what do you think? Fist build so just a noob here. Thanks, building off a stevens 200.

No new bolt face needed. Most brass is actually the same size as 06 at the rim/head and Savage bolt faces are usually oversized to boot.

.
Have a half-dozen 6.5 x 55 Swedes -- all with regular '06 bolt faces.
Cannot say for other guns, but these work fine.

The main thing about a Swede is to put a 30 inch barrel on it with an 8 inch twist.
Use 160 grain roundnose FMJ bullets.
And have a bayonet at the end of the barrel.
.
Is the bayonet for bull p-dogs, hopped up on sage grass, who take several hits and still make it to your shooting position? ;D

Swede cases are .003 larger if they come from overseas. Remington are the same as 30-06. Lapua sometimes hangs up in the bolt face. Wouldn't be a hard remedy to correct. It's a great round, really good if handloaded in a 110. IJ
